Process Safety Manager role includes:
  • Provide guidance, using strong verbal and written communication skills as a subject matter expert on process safety and chemical process safety standards, risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems.
  • Assist the facility leadership with the review and validation of operating procedures, the design and specification of process equipment and pressure safety devices, and have engineering capability responsibility for process hazard analyses (PHA), management of change (MOC), pre-startup safety reviews (PSSR), and HAZOP's.  The candidate will lead plant process incident investigations and develop effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Maintain all process safety information including: P&ID's, PFD's, chemical compatibility matrix, etc.
  • Assist the leadership team by identifying methods to assure that the elements of process safety and chemical process safety are integrated into the mill culture. The candidate will serve as a mentor for mill leadership and all employees to develop knowledge and appreciation for the value creation associated with a process safety approach to managing operations. The candidate will facilitate Process Safety ownership by the line organization and build capability within the facility.

  • Provides leadership and direction to achieve the process safety vision through management commitment and employee ownership.
  • Provides routine communication to mill management regarding process safety pans and issued impacting the mill.
  • Provides guidance and oversight for the plant's Process Safety program in keeping with company standards.
  • Facilitates process safety ownership by the line organization through the integration of the S&H Management System.
  • Leads and/or evaluates the quality of Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) for the mill.
  • Leads and/or facilitates ongoing risk assessments in order to anticipate, identify and evaluate hazards.
  • Assists mill leadership with the development of short and long-term process safety objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize initiatives and mitigate risks.
  • Provide guidance and analysis of process safety incident investigations in order to assure that sustainable long-term corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensures the development, improvement, and implementation of training systems to meet facility needs and to grow process safety skills and knowledge across the organization.
  • Monitors and assures process safety compliance.
  • Develops methods to monitor process safety trends and develops plans for continual performance improvement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or other technical or engineering field.
  • A minimum of 5 years manufacturing / process safety experience.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910.119 and 40 CFR 68.
  • Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) leadership experience
Preferred experience:
  • Supervisory experience within a chemical, petrochemical, or pulp/paper mill in operations, technical, or mechanical integrity role
  • ASP, GSP, CSP, CIH or equivalent certification
  • Experience in the chemical process or similar industry
