Job Description:
  • Embraces safety and environmental stewardship as a core value of leadership.
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships with other departments to obtain the required assistance in meeting departmental objectives.
  • Administers the department budget.
  • Develops and maintains effective employee relations.
  • Maintains effective programs in safety, cost control and reporting and manpower training, development and utilization.
  • Monitors plant operating conditions and takes necessary corrective actions to meet department objectives. 
  • Directs and/or recommends necessary changes to plant processes, equipment, procedures, or staffing to meet departmental objectives. 
  • Prepares operating strategy to meet production plan. 
  • Coaches and develops Production Department Supervisors. 
  • Maintains effective communications and working relationships with employees throughout the plant. 
  • Mobilizes quickly without acting impulsively, showing good judgment. 
  • Acts on one’s own initiative and coordinates actions to plans of the Production Manager. 
  • Works independently and under conditions of high interdependency. 
  • Develops and implements operational plans which deal with such activities as maintenance turnarounds and employee development programs as well as producing product in a timely and efficient manner. 
  • Responsible for supervision of other salaried employees as required.

Position Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years in a chemical plant. Nitrogen experience preferred.
  • Effective leadership/people skills.
  • Process safety management experience including safety leadership and culture.
  • Experience with a chemical processing plant.
  • Exposure to project management and implementation.
  • Solid communication skills including the ability to effectively converse in English, compose written documents and interact effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • Familiar with applicable codes, regulations and standards.
  • Works in a safe manner that promotes the EHS goals of the plant and the company.
  • Effective organizational, time management and communication skills.
  • Physical capability, availability, willingness and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Good interpersonal and influential skills.
  • Computer proficiency in a Microsoft Windows environment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and decision making skills.
  • Self-motivated in advancing to the highest level possible.
  • High functioning engineering knowledge and related work experience.
  • Skills to teach and train employees in their career paths.
